Joseph Edward Lynch, born March 29, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, went home to Jesus at sunrise, April 29, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.  He is survived by his wife, Viola Margaret Lynch, of 67 years, and nine children – Brian Joseph Lynch, Evelyn Viola Gronberg, Kathleen Mary Scott, Margaret Cecelia Dorna, John Edward Lynch, Mary Ann Monica Wohlfarth, Daniel Monroe Lynch, Patrick Joseph Lynch, and Christen Mary Conrad – All of which Joseph and Viola considered to be their greatest accomplishments and were successful in encouraging and bringing out the best in them, and to which he taught, “Make big plans in life because small ideas don’t stir men’s blood.  Also surviving him are 20 grandchildren: Sandra and Lauren Gronberg; Michael, Sarah, Caitlin, and Victoria Scott; Arwen and Alex Dorna; Allison and Ryan Lynch; Benjamin (Ava), Megan, and Madelyn Wohlfarth; Tobias and Caleb Lynch; Zachary, John, Jackson Lynch and Emma Lambrecht; James Peter (JP) and Theo Conrad, who are familiar with Grampa Joe telling them to “stay close to Jesus,” and two great grandchildren: Duke and Diana.

Joseph graduated from St. Ignatius in Cleveland, Ohio in 1947 where he excelled as an honor student-athlete enjoying art and was known for his “appropriate sense of humor for every occasion” ; John Carroll University where he was a distinguished military graduate, 5th in his class, Alpha Sigma Nu member with a double major in Business Economics & Government, and class president.  He then graduated from Cleveland Marshall Law School and was a member of the Ohio Bar.

Joseph’s law practice was briefly interrupted by the Korean War as he served his country as a Lieutenant inspector-instructor in the U.S. Army.  After their third child was born, the couple relocated to Lexington, Massachusetts, so Joseph could attend Harvard Business School, graduating with the class of 1963.  Up until his passing, Joseph maintained the role of Class Treasurer, enjoying the planning and executing of many Harvard Business School class reunions.

Joseph’s business career took him from CFO of General Foods to restructuring several companies to profitability to venturing on his own startups, and finalizing his long, storied career as Vice President of Boston Traders.  Not one to step out of the fray, after official retirement, Joseph continued assisting companies and became a successful consultant, whereby he continued his joy of encouraging and bringing out the best in others.

Joseph gave his heart to Jesus at a crisis point in his life.  Thereafter, his Christian motto became, “Jesus, I trust in You.”  He will always be remembered, respected, and loved by his children, grandchildren, Bible study group, work associates, friends, and neighbors as a man of God who brought honesty, integrity, diligence, reliability, and honor to whatever he did, all with a fun-loving attitude and a great sense of humor.  Those who knew Joseph Edward Lynch well can still hear him say, “The idea is to die young, as late as possible.”  He accomplished that too!  We love you, and we will be together again, with Jesus.

Family and friends will honor and remember Joseph's life by celebrating his Funeral Mass on Thursday morning, May 5th in St. Stephen Church, 221 Concord St. at 10 o'clock.  Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham.
